De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig took home the most prestigious Dutch award for pop music, consisting of a cash prize of 10,000 euros and a statuette by Theo Mackay, on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at Noorderslag. The ceremony was broadcast live on 3FM radio and NOS / NTR TV in the Netherlands.


The jury called Willie Wartaal, Vjeze Fur, Bas Bron and Faberyayo a rare infectious quartet, which has proven itself as a major inspiration for not only upcoming rap talents, but for anyone who loves music. "

The Pop Award is presented to the band or artist that has made the most important contribution to Dutch pop music in the past year. This depends on such factors as special artistic achievements, national and international success and a long career, but none of these are conclusive: the final verdict is up to the jury. The Pop Award is the top award for pop music in the Netherlands and the ceremony is an integral part of Noorderslag.

The prize, consisting of a statuette by Theo Mackaay and a check of € 10,000, is an initiative of BV Pop and is issued by Buma Cultuur with the support of Sena Performers. Buma Cultuur supports and promotes Dutch music copyright in the Netherlands and in key export markets for Dutch music (not necessarily with Dutch lyrics). Sena Performers is the performers section of Sena, the organization that collects and distributes the related rights for performers and record producers in the. The statuette by Theo Mackay and the prize money of € 10,000 will be made available by Buma Cultuur and Sena Performers.
